Dan is an instrument flight instructor with over 6,300 hours of flying time who has been flying for over 40 years. A 20-year Air Force veteran, he has flown the C-5A Galaxy, C-141 Starlifter, O-2A Cessna Skymaster, L-19 Bird Dog, Convair C-131, North American T-39 Sabreliner, and AT-33 Shooting Star, as well as T-41, T-37 and T-38 trainers. He holds an Airline Transport Pilot rating in the Sabreliner and commercial type ratings in the Convair 240/340/440 series and the Lockheed L-300.
As an Air Force pilot, Dan earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, 13 Air Medals, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Besides a short stint as a flight instructor in the mid-1970s at Edwards AFB California, Dan has been actively instructing at True Course Flight School since 2010, and has given more than 1700 hours of flight instruction. He uses a structured, building-block approach to flight instruction, and especially enjoys the “Aha!” moments when a student grasps a difficult concept or masters a new skill.
